Facebook Revamps Pages

Facebook Revamps Pages

If you’re a community manager like my self then you would probably know that Facebook had a major update Thursday night, by revamping the pages to look more like user profiles with new features and a new set of capabilities, in hopes to provide a top-notch user experience.
While the update is not yet Mandatory, page administrator can now take a tour and “preview” the current updates, however it is advised to switch to new profiles and get the hang of it, as March 1st will mark the end of the current user profiles and will set a mandatory change to all pages, by March 10th according to a Facebook announcement, all pages will be updates and displayed within the new profile scope.
So what’s new with the Facebook pages? Administrators can now interact with Facebook via the page’s identity. By selecting the “Use Facebook as a Page” option in the account section, administrators will be able to get notifications when fans interact with or post comments to a page; see activity in their news feed from pages they like; like other pages and feature them on the brand’s page; and make comments as their page on other pages, according to Facebook.
Photos are showcased as if they were featured on a normal user profile, with the most recent photos posted on the wall page featured first. Where as, navigation is on the left, which I personally hate for one reason, I loved the tabs, and most pages (where as I am still working on content for my page) have landing tabs and tabs that are very interactive with the users. With the lack of tabs the navigation links look so tiny and lost in the page.
On the other hand, Walls have two filters instead of the traditional three. Occasionally Facebook had “Sleepless in Amman + Others”, “Just Sleepless in Amman” and “Just Others.” Facebook filers now show posts by your page and top posts from everyone, a new way for people to see the most interesting stories first.
Although I must admit that I am in love with the new “Admin” features. Mainly because as administrator I now can get notifications when fans interact with my page or posts, which means as long as I am online, I can always get back to any comments and posts on Sleepless in Amman.
I just wish I could get the Facebook Tabs back… If you’re a community Manager and undergoing this change, let me know what you think!
