Inspire, Empower & Connect: The Morning Sessions
by

The Celebration of Entrepreneurship kicked off earlier this morning at 10:00 a.m, the lights dimmed, the music boomed through the speakers, and it was the official count down to the start of the event, the music was hip and up-beat, reflecting the informal setting of today’s gathering!

Arif, Abraaj CEO kicked off Day one by speaking to the crowd, and telling them that ” its the responsibility of the private sector to energize the industry, entrepreneurship. Don’t blame governments!” and continued to say that “is about celebrating success but also about accepting and acknowledging failure”.

He was followed by CEO of Aramex Fadi Ghandour, who continued to call for positive change for the spirit of entrepreneurship, he believes that “we have the power to change and it’s up to us to change the negative perception of the Arab world”! His speech was short, yet very powerful and inspirational!

Finally, Mr. Arif from Abraaj, taught us one of the most important lessons that one must learn in life, “I believe failure is what makes us successful!”

By 11:00 a.m the program resumed with Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, UAE who was speaking at the Corner on how her unique brand leadership helped her spearhead the UAE’s Ministry of Economy, during the country’s most economically prosperous periods in history! “The champion for a successful idea” she said “should be the business user, not the creator.”

Meanwhile, other sessions where taking place around the venue, including, a workshop “Is your brand working as hard as you?” an interactive workshop led by the Brand Union to ensure you realize business value from your brand, a session by Dr. Usama Fayyad, Chairman of Oasis500 who discussed “From Silicon Valley Startups to Internet giants, to early stage start-ups, Oasis 500”, Iman Bibars VP of Ashoka Arab World spoke about “Supporting social entrepreneurs inthe Middle East” and many other sessions, including, Off road venture capital by Matt Harris, Co-Founder and Managing General Partner of  Village Ventures in the USA, “Learning by coincidence!” by Raghda El Ebrashi, Founder and Chairperson of Alashanek, “From a social adventure to a social business” by Kamal Mouzawak, Founder, Souk el Tayeb and Christine Codsi, and more :)

Its going to be a long fruitful day here at the Celebration of Entrepreneurship. :)
