In Memory of Dababneh
A week ago many NYIT Students broke down into tears when they heard of the passing of their beloved SLO President Osama Dababneh. Dababneh who has been killed in a brutal car accident was elected by the students to represent them as Student Council President for the academic year 2010/2011 and had so many intitatives and plans to reach out to the unpriveleged and make the best out of everyone’s campus life.
After Osama’s Funeral Service on Tuesday the 22nd of March the students gathered on campus and decided that such a great influencer, as a student and as a man must not be forgotten, and the legacy of the words that he was planning to turn into actions should not be dismissed, and decided to start a Fundraising Event, where people (NYIT Students and the Public) can donate, food, money, clothes and toys which will later be donated in the memory of Osama to the less fortunate.
NYIT Jordan has kicked off an event on it’s Facebook Social Media Platform called “A Fundraiser Campaign in Memory of Osama Dababneh” [Link: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=210719185611196] which has brief details on how you can donate and the numbers to contact for people who would like to donate or help in soliciting donations.
I think Osama would have been really pleased with what NYIT is doing, he was a humanist and always wanted to help people all over the country to improve their lives.
I as a person take great pride to be part of the NYIT Community, as I find the students mature, turning their grief of a lost beloved friend into a plan of action. I for once think Osama had a heart of gold, i’ve known him for around two years now, and will be missing him very much, and I know for a fact that he would fo anything for anyone, so I am glad to be writing about such a great initative to keem his wishes alive among us.
